You can transfer up to 78 credits from an accredited two-year college or up to 90 credits from a four-year college when you join Upper Iowa as an undergraduate. In general, credits will transfer for all lecture and lab courses completed successfully at school as accredited by the following regional associations:
  • Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges
  • North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges

Some transfer credits may be applied to elective courses at UIU, and some students are able to transfer credits as part of an Experiential Learning Portfolio. Visit the website for more information about articulation agreements, degree plans and transferring.

We have nearly 900 students on our campus in Fayette, Iowa. We’re proud to be Iowa’s only Division II NCAA athletic teams and Iowa’s most diverse (23%!) private university. Our class sizes are small (avg. 24) and our student-to-faculty ratio is 14:1 to provide all the personal attention you’ll need for your academic success.

Whether you live on campus or commute from nearby, you'll find what you need here. The 100-acre campus includes new suite-style residence hall(s), a new student center, a new Liberal Arts building and the only on-campus Mongolian Grill in the area! And a completely transformed football complex will open in Fall 2012, courtesy of an alumni gift. Just looking for a place to study? Try the Quiet Lounge, the Library, or a bench tucked away in a serene green space. And the master plan and capital campaign will continue to transform UIU.

Plus, UIU has helped to bring some new businesses to downtown Fayette including Pavo Blue and Cabo Blue Restaurant and Sports Lounge. There's lots to do in the area, especially if you love the outdoors. We have an 18-hole golf course, the beautiful Volga River Recreation area, a bike trail and free rental of all the outdoor recreation equipment you'll need for fun in the sun or in the snow.

And it's affordable. We work hard to keep tuition costs low; and, on average, a UIU student graduates with some of the least college debt in the state of Iowa according to the 2010 reports.

Be sure to come and see for yourself, by scheduling a campus visit and taking a look at the website.

"The staff becomes just like family. They are always friendly and they go out of their way to help. Whether you are trying to figure out something complicated or just trying to figure out the fax machine, they are willing to stop what they're doing and help."

Upper Iowa offers a wide variety of educational opportunities tailored to fit the dynamic lifestyle of today's military personnel and their families. Upper Iowa has been named a top Military-Friendly University by Military Advanced Education and Victory Media.  We are proud to be a participating institution in the Principles of Excellence and Yellow Ribbon programs.

Flexibility is the key to educational opportunities for today’s service members, giving you the opportunity to fulfill your military commitment without leaving your career objectives behind. Depending on your schedule and location, you can take courses in an educational classroom while you’re on base, online when you’re not on base, and as self-paced study if you don’t have reliable access to a computer and a modem. Our portable learning programs go with you-from home, to the military installation, to the field, sea, or air-no matter where you are. In addition, the flexible course and assignment completion schedules work with your military commitments. UIU is accessible, no matter where you are. If you're on the move, you can combine aspects of any of the three UIU Academic Extension programs (Self-Paced Degree, Online, and Military Learning Centers) to work with your personal schedule and duty status.  Please see the 2015-2016 Military and Veterans Information Sheet that outlines why UIU might be right for you.

UIU has a deployment policy that allows us to work with you to help you advance towards your goals while you serve your country.

Our military-based academic advisors will help you develop a program of coursework that will advance you toward your goals and be reflective of your busy, and often-changing, lifestyle.
